This painting is inspired by a photograph of me and my sister, clutching flowers in a park, when we must’ve been about 3 years old.
Based on the idea of Shelter, it depicts two hands closing gently around a single, fragile bloom, not to protect it from the world, but to return to it. In a field where flowers open freely, fall, and scatter without a second thought, this one gesture slows everything down: a reaching back toward something soft, unguarded, and whole. It isn’t nostalgia for childhood so much as a physical act of returning to it: cupping something delicate long enough to remember what it felt like to hold the world so carefully, before you knew it could be lost.
