Hi there.
Here you can find news about my latest achievements, open calls, shortlists, galleries and fair, as well as updates about my Artist Open House which takes place twice a year, in December and in May.
Very pleased to say Unwatched Hour was selected part of the 2026 Sussex Contemporary - Shelter, 7 – 28 November, at the Marine Workshops, Newhaven, in their BN9 Studios space.
This painting holds two mothers in one figure, one asleep, unaware how fast her child is slipping into a world too old for them; one wrapped around them, forming a quiet shelter against time itself. Her body curves not to contain, but to hold a little more childhood in place before the world asks too much, too soon. The loose, tilting brushwork mirrors this fragility: shelter is never fixed, never complete, it drifts, it’s imperfect, and still it’s offered again and again. The unwatched hour isn’t a failure to protect. It’s the space between, where shelter is built one return at a time.
This little painting is currently on show at the Bond Street Gallery in Brighton, from the 17th of October to the 8th of November, as part of their open call The Warp and the Weft.
Its a very personal one as it cant get more personal than yourself....its called "Where I begin" and this is the concept from where it was born...
This painting was inspired by a photo of my mum and her sister, back in Romania in the 1950s. Ive been thinking of the warp and weft of my own being, being a Romanian national established in the UK for 20 years. So Ive decided to depict two versions of me, two dresses, two patterns, under the same sky, same hand held between us. The faces dissolve into blue where both identities begin, indistinct and unclaimed. But the legs are painted solid, grounded on the same red earth: proof I stand in both places now, not halfway between them. Warp is the thread you're born with, invisible once the weaving starts. Weft is what you add, year by year, country by country. Neither makes cloth alone.
